Hello Readers,

Happy New Year to you all!

This time of year many of us have a renewed focus on health and fitness, and perhaps addressing some extra pounds accrued from holiday festivities. So this month's newsletter is intended to provide you with support for those pursuits.

How can you manage your weight by eating right for your body type, instead of dieting? Read below for tips.

Are you getting the results you want from your exercise program? Is there such a thing as exercising right for your body type? Read below to find out.

Over the years I have found a variety of protein powders and supplements that work well with my patients. Since supplements are derived from foods, they work best with specific body types. If you're looking for high-quality supplements for your nutrition and workouts, read below.

As you begin your New Year, are there things from the past you're trying to let go? Sage Essential Oil can be used to help release Fear of Letting Go.

The Lymph body type is naturally atheletic and well-coordinated. They need both mental and physical stimulation or they experience depression. With their natural desire for exercise they often become athletes or personal trainers. Are you a Lymph type?

As a reminder, the 12-week Practitioner Certification course on "Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils" (also suitable for individuals not seeking certification) begins February 1.

As always, I hope and trust that these newsletters help you enjoy a happier, healthier life.

Health and Happiness,
Dr. Carolyn Mein

Eating Right for Your Body Type

What foods are most supportive for you, and which are not? Which meal should be your largest? What part of the day should you consume most of your protein? What’s the best time of day for you to eat fruit? How can you manage your weight without drastic dieting? Can you be a healthy vegetarian? The answers to all these questions, and more, can be answered by knowing your body type.

Body type diets based on your dominant gland or blood type aren’t new. Early in my career I worked with clients implementing these diets, but found they weren’t specific enough. That led me to discover that there were more than just a few different body types (25 in total) and that they each have very different nutritional needs.

The 25 Body Type SystemTM is based on your dominant gland, organ or system. It correlates with certain distinguishing physical characteristics such as build, musculature, and weight gain patterns and areas, among others. I also determined which foods do and do not support each body – and the best times of day to eat them.

Why does my body type matter?

Eating right for your specific body type supports your entire system, providing the nutrition for best overall energy, stamina, and health. Food cravings and weight are both managed more easily when eating right for your body type.

Most fad diets are based on starvation – but in the long run the weight comes back, and then some, when your body goes from “famine” to “feast” mode. The best answer is to consistently eat right for your body type.

Knowing your body type is like having an owner’s manual for your body (the Profile and Diet book). This contains detailed foods lists, sample menus, and nutritional guidelines specifically for your body type, and much, much more.

For more about diets and body types, here are some videos.

Are the body types really that different?

Can there really be that many significant differences between 25 different body types? You might be surprised.

The foods that work well for some types can be problematic for others. Olive oil and almonds are examples of foods that are considered healthful for everyone – but there are a couple of body types that should avoid them altogether.

The time of day to eat certain foods varies between body types. Protein is one example, where some body types should eat lighter early in the day while other types should consume the majority of their protein earlier.

This is especially true for fruit. We tend to think of fruit as a whole food that can be a healthy snack at any time of the day – but the truth is each body type has specific times of day that fruit should be avoided for support of the digestive system.

Some body types have problems with certain foods unless they are combined with certain other foods – such as beef with eggs, or turkey with celery. Some body types have trouble when combining grains with meat – such as sandwiches.

We tend to crave those foods that stimulate the dominant gland, organ or system that defines our body type – which are exactly what we don’t want to eat too often. The nutritional plan for each body type supports the primary gland, organ or system first, but supports the entire body overall.

Can I be a healthy vegetarian?

I have found that about half of the 25 body types can thrive on a vegetarian diet, as long as they are healthy. They are those types who do well digesting and assimilating legumes. How do I begin my journey to better health and nutrition?

The best way to determine your body type is with the online test. When you complete the test you immediately receive the 60-page Profile and Diet ebook for your body type packed with information about your body type. There is an upgraded package which also includes the paperback version of the book (shipping is included).

You can save with the couples test – which can be any mix of genders, so you can purchase this test package with a friend, partner or spouse.

Read more about eating right for body type.

As a free bonus, when you complete your test you will also receive 12 weeks of Coaching Tips. I have found that people are overwhelmed by the information in the Profile and aren’t sure where to begin, or what is most important. The Coaching Tips are a series of emails that introduce you to one aspect of your body type each week to help you develop a detailed understanding of your body type at a digestible pace. The Coaching Tips provide additional information and resources beyond what’s contained in the Profile.

What's Your Best Exercise Plan?

Is there such a thing as “exercise right for my body type?” Yes there is. Whether your goal is to gain muscle mass, tone up, get fit, or lose weight, some body types have preferred types of exercise and times of day to exercise.

One benefit of knowing your body type is having a realistic expectation for your goals. Certain body types will easily build muscle mass and muscular definition, while others have natural soft layers that will hide muscular definition regardless of exercise. Some types can easily build up calves, while others will remain slender despite exercise, due to musculature patterns of their body type.

While exercise is beneficial for everyone, the best types of exercise vary by body type. Some are good with high impact exercise and heavy lifting, while it can be detrimental to others. Some types are better with more aerobic forms of exercise.

There is a best time of day for exercise for some types as well. This is determined by the stress release benefit, or when the body has the extra energy for exercise.

Read more about exercising right for your body type.

When exercising, here are 2 powdered supplements I have found to be particularly supportive. Both powders are high-quality vegan options to support your workouts.

Electrolyte Synergy promotes optimum hydration after excessive sweating and includes Vitamin C along with other minerals, and has a great citrus flavor.

Premier Fermented Beets provides antioxidant nitrates to support athletic stamina and gut health.

Which Protein Powders and Supplements are Best for My Body Type?

Over the years I have found several top-quality protein supplements that work well for most body types. I have tested each to determine which are best with specific body types. Just as certain foods are better for certain body types, the same is true with protein supplements. So if you’re looking for new, clean and healthy options to start off the new year, here are some excellent options to consider:

Total Body Greens – is a favorite among my patients, who particularly like the Chocolate flavored version. This organic greens powder is high in anti-oxidants. This is especially supportive for the Eye, Gallbladder, Kidney, Lung, Medulla, Pancreas, Pineal, Skin and Stomach body types who can use this up to 5 times per week.

Phytotein – is an excellent vegetarian option featuring pea protein along with other vegetables. I recommend this choice for up to 3 times weekly, for the Blood, Brain, Eye, Hypothalamus, Liver, Lymph, Medulla, and Skin body types.

Whole Body Collagen – supports bone strength, joints, and skin elasticity. This is highly recommended for all body types up to 5 times weekly - except Blood, Brain and Eye body types, which should use only twice weekly.

PurePaleo Bone Broth – this is another favorite among my patients, featuring HydroBEEF to support muscle, cartilage and ligaments. Both the Chocolate and Vanilla flavors are fantastic. While all types can use this a few times weekly, those that can benefit from using it 5 times weekly include Brain, Eye, Gallbladder, Gonadal, Intestinal, Liver, Lymph, Medulla, Nervous Sytem, Pancreas, Skin, Spleen and Stomach.

Premier Nutritional Flakes – is a superfood providing amino acids and a range of B vitamins with a delicious cheesy taste. This can be used as a condiment sprinkled on salads or other foods. This tests extremely well with most types and can be used 5 times weekly by all types except Blood, Brain, and Eye, who can benefit from using it up to twice weekly.

Re-Vita LiquaHealth – is a spirulina-based superfood that comes as a liquid concentrate in Lemon-Lime and Very Berry flavors. It supplies over 50 important nutrients including amino acids, active enzymes and trace minerals. The individual packets are easy to carry, and this one is a favorite of mine because it goes so well in many foods and beverages. I highly recommend it for all body types for nearly daily use, and the Skin body type can benefit from using up to 2 packets daily. It’s great for after-exercise as it provides amino acids and minerals, and is easy to add to your favorite drink for a post-workout pickup.

Sage Essential Oil
for Letting Go

As we begin a new year, it’s beneficial to let go of whatever no longer serves us, or has been holding us back. We may have held onto things that are detrimental to us for fear of Letting Go. And when we do let go of anything that’s no longer productive or beneficial to us, Happiness is the result, or the "other side."

The fear of Letting Go can be transmuted into Happiness with Sage essential oil. The fear of Letting Go is stored in the bladder, whose primary function is to store and release.

The way to shift into Happiness is to use the affirmation, “Let go and let God” or “Let go and let live”, as you prefer.

The fear of Letting go is a core emotional issue for the Gallbladder and Pancreas body types.

Sage has traditionally been used for cleansing and clearing of both people and spaces – such as “saging”. Known as “herba sacra,” or “sacred herb,” by the ancient Romans, sage (Salvia officinalis) derives its botanical name from the Latin word for salvation. Traditionally used in clearing rituals, Sage essential oil has a bold, herbaceous aroma that can be used aromatically for this same purpose.
