What Can I Learn From My Body Type?

What Can I Learn From My Body Type?

Your body type determines many characteristics of your physical and emotional being. The shape and proportions of your body, where you gain weight, and hair loss patterns are all examples of characteristics specific to your body type. Even your basic personality, what motivates you, and the emotions you most commonly struggle with, are aspects of your body type.

Knowing your body type helps to clarify your best nutrition and exercise, leading to better overall health, energy, and stamina. It can also help you identify emotional patterns and how to resolve them.

Origins of the 25 Body Type System™

Early in my career as a chiropractic physician, I became acutely aware of the importance of diet and nutrition, and also that I could not give everyone a “blanket” diet. The popular diet systems contradicted each other. Dr. Henry Bieler had introduced a glandular-based body type system that made sense, but was limited. He identified a gland of the body as being dominant, correlating to body shape and nutritional differences between body types.

I quickly found his system didn’t work for everyone – most of the people I was seeing appeared to be a combination of the types, or didn’t fit a type at all. My research would eventually identify that there are actually 25 distinct body types.

Not limited to just the glands, body types may be distinguished by a dominant gland, organ or system. Stomach, Lung and Skin body types are examples of those having a dominant organ. The Lymph, Blood and Nervous System body types are identified by a dominant system rather than a gland or an organ.

By working with thousands of patients I documented the physical differences, best foods and nutrition, and personality commonalities for people sharing the same body type. I published “Different Bodies, Different Diets” in 1998 to introduce the 25 Body Type System™ based on my research.

Physical Differences Between Body Types

Mesomorph, Ectomorph and Endomorph are commonly considered prototypical for different body shapes. They look distinctly different and identifiable. In reality it’s not that simple – most people have a hybrid of these characteristics.

Skeletal size and proportions can be indicators of body type. Hypothalamus body types are often characterized by their height, and can be easily identified on basketball courts. Pineal body types have small heads in proportion to their bodies, while Pituitary body types have proportionately larger heads. Shoulder width and torso thickness also help to differentiate body type.

Musculature also helps to distinguish body types. Adrenal body types are recognizable by their dense, solid musculature, and can be found on football fields and in body building competitions. Heart body types have a soft layer all over which hides muscular definition they may obtain through exercise.

Weight gain can also indicate body type. Lymph body types may find it hard to gain weight, while Pancreas body types gain weight readily and have difficulty losing it. Weight gain areas are specific to a body type – upper or lower body vs. all over gain, and specific areas.

For comparison, see pictures of Women’s body types and Men’s body types.

Nutrition and Weight Management

The 25 Body Type System™ is not a diet program. Crash diets are often based on starvation cycles (feast-famine) and are not healthy for the body, often causing additional weight gain after the diet ends. When the body experiences an artificial famine (diet), during the next feast it stores extra weight to prepare for the next famine, which is why frequent dieters have an increasingly difficult time keeping weight off.

Eating right for your body type is the path to managing your weight without dieting. When you nourish yourself properly, you’ll notice that food cravings stop, and you will have more consistent energy, focus and stamina throughout the day.

What’s the best time of day for you to eat dense protein? Or fruit? What foods are most supportive for your dominant gland, organ or system? What foods should you avoid? How can you lose weight without dieting? These questions are all answered by knowing your body type.

Eating right for your body type can also help to maintain an ideal weight, or even gain weight, in a way that is healthy and supportive for your body.

Body Type and Genetics

We are born with our body type and it remains the same throughout life. Body type is not genetic. There are 3 body types – Stomach, Skin, and Gonadal – that tend to run in families, but usually families include multiple different body types.

These differences introduce challenges – aligning different eating preferences and schedules, and learning to understand and work with different personalities and perspectives.

Do you have difficulty getting your child to eat? There’s a strong chance they are not the same body type as you, and have different preferences.

The Personality Profile

The personality similarities shared by those having the same body type are remarkable, and was a surprise to me during my research. It’s invariably the biggest surprise to people when they discover their body type and read their profile for the first time. The common reaction is, “how can you know me so well?”

The Profile truly encapsulates the essence of who you truly, innately are – what motivates you, what your passions are, and your key characteristics. The “at best” and “at worst” sections of the profile compare you to yourself rather than to someone else’s standards or expectations.

The personality profile identifies the characteristic personality traits of each body type, as well as what each is passionate about, and what motivates them. I was also able to identify key emotional patterns for each type – certain emotions that are more of a recurring them for them.

It was these “core emotional issues” for each body type that led me to write “Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils”. I developed the self-help technique described in the book to work through these core emotional issues, changing them from challenges into strengths.

Where To Start?

If you don’t already know your body type, my online test is the best place to start. It’s very simple – it ranges from 3 to 12 questions depending upon how easily your body type can be determined.

Upon finishing the test you immediately receive a detailed 60-page “Profile and Diet” ebook for your body type. These Profiles have been likened to having a “user’s manual” for your body. They are also available as a paperback if you prefer.

There is a lot of detail and information about your body type in the book. It tends to be overwhelming for most people, leaving them wondering, “where do I start?”

To help with that, upon finishing your test, you’ll receive weekly tips for 12 weeks. I have designed these to introduce you to various aspects of your body type – what makes you unique from other types, the most significant nutritional tips for you to follow, and much more. These tips also provide resources in addition to the Profile book to learn more about your specific body type.

Are You a Kidney Body Type?

Kidney Body Types tend to procrastinate, forcing themselves to excel when under the pressure of deadlines

Women with the Kidney body type are usually petite to average in height, with medium bone structure and shoulders relatively even with hips. They have a defined or well defined waist, and a strong, sturdy body with muscular thighs. Weight gain is in the lower body, beginning in the entire upper 2/3 of thighs, which can extend to inner knees. Little or no gain in the abdomen.
Men with the Kidney body type typically have a swimmer's build, with broad shoulders and a long, slender torso, presenting a slender, muscular appearance. They can range from average to tall, with medium to large bone structure. Torso muscular definition is relatively easy to achieve. Generally not prone to weight gain; weight gain begins as thickening of waist with little or no gain in abdomen; abdomen gain as solid musculature.

Common Sense Essential Oil
For Releasing Provoke

Provoke is a way of control, it’s an attack. Provoking is a way of “poking” at somebody in order to elicit a reaction, which is a form of control. The control occurs by getting somebody off balance and pulling them into your drama.

When provoked, our natural reaction is to defend ourselves. We feel the need to defend ourselves when we don’t feel safe.

When we do feel safe, we don’t feel a need to defend – we have options, we are Flexible. When we are Flexible, we can bend and dodge the punches – and it can feel like punches when we are being provoked.

Common Sense essential oil is used to transmute Provoke into Flexible, with the way out being “I am safe.”

Common Sense was formulated with a focusing aroma to support decision making and personal discipline. Decisions such as choosing to be Flexible rather than provoked.

Commons Sense is a blend of Frankincense, Ylang Ylang, Ocotea, Goldenrod, Rue, Dorado Azul, and Lime.
