Hello Readers,

LeeYen Anderson and I will be presenting a virtual essential oils workshop "Grow your Young Living Business Through Self-Discovery." Registration is open through July 27.

Are you getting enough of your most important minerals? This month I look in detail at the most important minerals, and reveal which whole foods (both vegetarian and animal) are the best and most concentrated sources for these minerals.

Do you struggle with Abandonment or Criticism? Learn how to release these emotions with Lavender Essential Oil.

Are you highly sensitive to emotions and energies? Do you recharge through your strong connection to nature and animals? Then you may be a Skin body type.

My 12-week Practitioner’s Certification course “Emotional Wisdom with Essential Oils” begins on October 1. This will be the 6th run of this course which has been popular with individuals as well as practitioners.

As always, I hope and trust that these newsletters help you enjoy a happier, healthier life.

Life Lessons
When I discovered the 25 Body Type SystemTM, I was surprised to find such a consistent personality profile shared by people having the same body type. As I explored deeper, I found a common Life Lesson for each body type as well.

I have just produced a video revealing the Life Lesson for each of the 25 body types, and how those Life Lessons show up. Consciously knowing your Life Lesson enables you to integrate it more quickly and smoothly.

Length: 94 minutes
Cost: $25

Getting Your Key Minerals

Best Whole Food Sources

Many key minerals your body needs can be found in common foods. Adding these to your meals weekly will provide excellent natural supplements. I have included vegan and vegetarian sources for each nutrient. I have also notated the exceptions where certain foods are contraindicated for specific body types.

Iron

Iron is essential for healthy red blood cells, which deliver oxygen throughout the body. Iron deficiency, which is thought to affect nearly 25% of global population, results in fatigue. This mineral is especially important for developing teens at ages 14 – 18, as well as women during menstruation, pregnancy and lactation, or after any major loss of blood.

Iron comes in two varieties – one contains the “heme” protein (“heme iron”) while the other (“non-heme iron”) does not. Heme protein is more readily assimilated by the body, and occurs only in animal sources, while non-heme protein is found in plants.

  • Heme: Beef1, lamb2; chicken & goat liver; clams, oysters3, mussels
  • Non-heme: Lentils4, chickpeas, beans, spinach, kale, moringa leaves, sesame seeds, potato with skin, dark chocolate over 45%5

3except Thalamus body type
4except Thalamus body type
5except Liver, Medulla, Nervous System body types

Magnesium

Magnesium is found in every cell in your body. It is a cofactor – a “helper molecule” – that assists enzymes in over 600 different biochemical reactions. These include creating energy from food, creating new proteins from amino acids, maintaining DNA, supporting muscle movements, and many, many other functions. It is thought that 50% of Americans don’t receive enough magnesium.

These are the richest sources of magnesium – and the vegetarian options have a higher concentration than the animal sources:
  • Vegetarian – pumpkin seeds1, chia seeds, spinach, almonds2, cashews3, cooked edamame, cooked black beans, avocado
  • Animal – cooked salmon or halibut, shrimp3

1Except Lymph body type
2Except Pineal, Thalamus body types
3Except Adrenal body type

Calcium

Calcium is best known for building and maintaining healthy bones, although it also keeps your heart, muscles and nerves running, and maintains healthy blood pressure. If you are calcium-deficient, your body will release calcium from your bones into your bloodstream. Over time this may develop into osteoporosis.

Calcium is available in many vegetarian sources, although the highest concentration of calcium is found in dairy. Vegetarian sources that are higher in oxalic acid (such as spinach and chard) will hinder calcium absorption, so a rotating variety is recommended:
  • Dairy – milk1, yogurt, cheese
  • Vegetarian – greens (kale, collard, and bok choy), beans, nuts, seeds, almond milk2, rice milk
1Except Lung body type
2Except Pineal, Thalamus body types

Zinc

Zinc is vital for the immune system, bone growth, and hormone production. Zinc deficiency results in slow wound healing, poor oral health, hair loss, and frequent infections. Zinc deficiency in the USA is considered to be rare. Your body does not store zinc, so it is consumed daily.

The vegetarian sources for zinc have a much lower concentration than animal sources. Legumes provide zinc but also contain phytates, an “antinutrient” which inhibits some absorption of zinc – this can be counteracted by heating, sprouting, soaking or fermenting the legumes:
  • Vegetarian – seeds (hemp, pumpkin1, squash, sesame), nuts (pine2, cashews3, almonds4), boiled lentils5, raw mushrooms
  • Animal – oysters6, beef7, lamb8, pork, crab, shrimp, mussels, cheese
1Except Lymph body type
2Except Pineal body type
3Except Adrenal body type
4Except Pineal, Thalamus body types
5Except Thalamus body type
6Except Thalamus body type
7Except Adrenal, Blood body types
8Except Balanced body type

Sodium

Sodium balances the amount and distribution of water in our bodies. It also helps to control blood pressure, and supports heart, muscle and nerve function. Too much sodium is believed to cause high blood pressure. We typically think of sodium chloride (salt) as a source.

Sodium is found naturally in many whole foods at very low concentrations, while most processed and prepared foods contain too much salt. When avoiding prepared foods, a high quality salt can be added to whole foods. I have found Pink Salt to be highly supportive for all body types.
  • Vegetarian – carrot, brown rice, pear, mango, tomato1, beets, celery, spinach
  • Animal – shellfish (shrimp2, scallops, mussels), fish (salmon, sardines)
1Except Thyroid body type
2Except Adrenal body type

Potassium

Potassium can help to lower blood pressure when too much sodium is in the system. It also improves metabolism, and increases oxygen to the brain, which is why bananas (high in potassium) are called “brain food.” It also builds muscles and manages water balance. Potassium also balances blood sugar, preventing insulin spikes, and is recommended for diabetics.

Unlike sodium, highly processed foods are usually low in potassium. Some vegetarian sources include oxalates, which may cause kidney stones in sensitive people. Beet leaves, Swiss chard, and spinach are all high in potassium but also high in oxalates. Sources:
  • Vegetarian – avocado, beets, leafy greens, banana, dried fruit1, spinach, broccoli, potatoes, sweet potatoes2, mushrooms
  • Animal – bone broth, beef3, seafood (octopus, salmon), liver, chicken
1Except Pineal body type
2Except Medulla, Thyroid body types
3Except Adrenal, Blood body types

Methylation

Methylation is the production of amino acids, DNA, red blood cells, B12 folic acid, and hormones in the body. These are necessary for operation of numerous functions within the body for optimal health.

The process is highly dependent upon the state of the biome in the digestive tract. If you feel that you’re consuming enough quality foods but not quite digesting and assimilating well, Standard Process makes a Chlorophyll Complex gelcap which repairs and rebuilds the lining in the small intestines, where assimilation takes place. I have found this to work very well with most people and provides other health benefits as well.

Are You a Skin Body Type?

Skin Body Types are sensitive to emotions, subtle energies and vibrations, they communicate through feeling and touch

Women with Skin body type present a soft, gentle appearance with a full face which is oval or round. They characteristically have a square, flat upper back with a relatively straight torso, and shoulders relatively even with hips. Height may range from petite to tall. Even at ideal weight, puffiness in hands and feet obscures tendons. Weight gain begins in lower abdomen, upper hips, waist, middle back, face, and upper thighs.
Men with Skin body type have medium-to-large bone structure and a round or oval face. They characteristically have a square, flat upper back. They have a thick, straight torso, typically with slender legs, and shoulders relatively even with hips. A soft layer of fat under skin covers muscle, minimizing muscular definition. Excess weight is often a problem later in life, and weight is predominantly carried in torso in the front. Hair loss pattern is frontal with rising forehead, or minimal receding at upper sides.

Lavender Essential Oil
for Releasing Abandonment and Criticism

Lavender essential oil has a tranquil aroma that’s soothing to both the senses and the skin. Young Living lavender comes from the high elevations of Utah, and the south of France.

Lavender can be used to release fear of Abandonment, which is a Core Emotional Issues for 9 of the 25 body types. While everyone can have abandonment issues, Core Emotional Issues are deeper and are linked to significant life lessons. The 9 body types are Adrenal, Brain, Intestinal, Lung, Pituitary, Skin, Spleen, Stomach, and Thymus.

The feeling of Abandonment is most commonly felt when someone you care about or someone you feel is supposed to take care of you is no longer in the picture. This can even be projected to God not being there when our expectations are not met. A deeper understanding of abandonment comes when we look at how we have abandoned ourselves.

The other side of Abandonment is At-one-ment; which means being at one with all that is. When you are at one with all that is, there can not be any separation. Because all is one, there is no separation, and therefore abandonment can not exist.

Ultimately, we experience what we call negative emotions when there is something we need to learn. With Abandonment, it is to embrace all of life’s experiences, because this is how we learn. Abandonment is stored in the small intestines.

The fear of Criticism is stored in the skin, and is the other Core Emotional Issue for the Skin body type. It is also a Core Emotional Issue for the Intestinal body type. The positive side of Criticism is unconditional love and acceptance. This means acceptance without judgement, but honoring yourself and others by being discerning as to what is true and right for you. By doing this, you can open yourself to receive. The way out is “I receive.”

Lavender essential oil is calming, relaxing and balancing – both physically and emotionally. Therapeutic grade lavender is highly regarded for the skin and may be used to cleanse cuts, bruises and skin irritations.

Examples of topical uses include:
  • Rub on dry, chapped or sunburned skin or lips to soothe
  • Spritz several drops mixed with distilled water onto sunburn to help soothe it
  • Place drop on bee sting or insect bite to reduce pain and swelling
  • Place drop on cut to stop bleeding
  • Place drop on tip of tongue, navel, or behind ears to alleviate symptoms of motion sickness
  • Massage oil on and around scar tissue to minimize its appearance
  • Rub several drops into scalp to help with flaking
  • Rub 2-4 drops into armpit to serve as a deodorant
  • Rub on feet for a calming effect on body

Aromatic uses include:
  • Rub a drop on palms and on pillow to help you sleep
  • Rub on palms and inhale to alleviate the symptoms of hay fever or allergies
  • Place a few drops on a wet cloth and toss into dryer to deodorize and freshen laundry
  • Place a few drops on cotton ball and place in linen closet to scent linens and help repel moths and insects
  • Diffuse into air to support body’s natural defenses against airborne sensitivities to the skin and immune system
  • Inhale for relaxation (University of Miami research shows this increases brain beta waves)
  • Diffuse in office area for increased concentration
