Radio Interview with Dr. Karen Kan
This week I had a wonderful interview with Dr. Karen Kan of Light Warrior Radio on Discovering Your Body Type. We covered a succinct in-depth overview of what the 25 Body Type System is all about. Starting with 3 distinctly different body types and expanding into 25, exploring the 4 quadrants related to dominant traits, how to turn your "At Worst" characteristics into your "At Best" and have the relationships you want.
You can listen to the audio here.
The Basis of the Personality Profile
Do you consider yourself to be more physical or more spiritual? More mental or more emotional? We each present unique personalities to the world, and yet those sharing the same body type have remarkably similar traits and motivations.
When people discover their body type, their biggest surprise is almost always the personality profile. The most frequent comment I hear is, “how can you know me so well?” People are consistently surprised at the level of detail and accuracy of the personality profile for their body type.
The 4 Aspects of Your Basic Nature
Your basic nature determines your response to life events, and what motivates you. This basic nature is innate and doesn’t change. There are four defining aspects: physical, spiritual, mental and emotional. We are born with two of these traits dominant, which defines how we perceive the world and interact with others. The other two traits are recessive, and we develop them as we grow. However, our innate response is always our first response.
Each body type can be identified as either physical / mental, physical / emotional, spiritual / mental, or spiritual / emotional. For each body type, these traits are manifested in a unique way.
A body type that is more mental than emotional doesn’t mean they don’t feel or experience emotion – it means that they trust what they think or know more than how they feel. A mental body type makes logical or “informed” (information-based) decisions rather than “gut feeling” decisions, while an emotional body type trusts how a decision “feels” rather than researching the details.
Likewise, physical and spiritual body types aren’t differentiated by physical strength or belief systems. A physical body type interprets situations literally or at face value, before trusting an unseen concept or idea. A spiritual body type more readily trusts a concept or idea even if unproven in a physical manner.
The basic nature of all 25 body types relative to each other is shown in this chart:
So how do these differences manifest themselves in daily life?
The Adrenal body type is the classic physical / mental. They have a wide, grounded stance, and when they enter a room full of people they make their presence known, with their strong, commanding physical presence and energy. They mentally examine problems from multiple angles to arrive at a practical solution. They may appear to have a short attention span because once they’ve figured out a solution, their alert mind wants to move on to something else and leave the details to others.
The Gonadal body type is physical / emotional. They embody the physical aspect of their nature in a playful or sexual way. When feeling mentally overwhelmed, they will immerse themselves in physical activity. They are very sensitive to the feelings of others, and are prone to being controlled by their emotions. Being more people- than task-oriented, they understand when emotional support is needed and they provide it. They often pursue careers with less of a mental focus – such as hairdressing or interior design – working with others to create physical beauty.
The Heart body type is spiritual / emotional. True to their name, they exude an approachability and a sensitivity to others that is truly heartfelt. Their amplified feelings often take them on an emotional roller coaster ride, which may appear to others that they are blowing things out of proportion. When they attain inner emotional peace with self, their spiritual nature allows them to be happy regardless of physical circumstances.
The Thyroid body type embodies the spiritual / mental nature. Like the Heart body type, Thyroids are very sensitive to the feelings and emotions of others, and exhibit a strong compassion or empathy for them. Having a stronger mental than emotional aspect allows them to be more self-sufficient emotionally, and when confrontation is needed, they can wait until the times is right and will go to lengths to prepare so that the other person is not offended. Their mental nature enables them to study and understand complex concepts in depth.
It’s always useful and interesting to understand the self in different and deeper ways. The real benefit to the personality profiles of the 25 Body Type System is learning to better understand those around us, and how they operate, allowing us to relate to each other more productively. This process helps us to expand our own recessive traits, and grow.
Are You a Lymph Body Type?
Are you happiest when active? Are you strong, well-proportioned, attractive, and well-coordinated? Do you welcome the variety that change brings into your life? Then you may be a Lymph body type.
Celebrities with Lymph body type include Jada Pinkett Smith, Dwayne Johnson, Tom Cruise, Heather Locklear, Jane Fonda, Mikhail Baryshnikov, David Beckham, Lindsey Vonn, Bob Harper, Sean Connery, and Hugh Jackman.
Tom Cruise's character in Top Gun portrayed a classic Lymph body type. He displays the physical strength and mental calculations typical of a physical / mental body type, such as the Adrenal or Stomach body types. However, as shown on the Body Type Relativity Quadrants chart in the article above, Lymph is much closer to the center of the chart than those body types, and the spiritual and emotional traits are much more pronounced with Lymph. We see this embodied in the character's finesse, sensitivity, and emotional responses.
Are you a Lymph body type? You might be, if:
If this describes you, you could be a Lymph body type.
Lymph body types are the most consistently attractive of the 25 body types. They are well-proportioned, bright, and athletically-inclined.
Lymph women have broad shoulders, with strong abdominal muscles and thighs, and rounded buttocks. Weight gain pattern is lower body, with initial gain in upper and inner thighs, then lower abdomen and hips.
Lymph men are average to tall, with muscular build and markedly broad shoulders. Abdomen is flat and muscular definition is easy to attain. Thighs are strong with narrow calves. Lymph men generally have a strong desire for physical exercise. Initial weight gain is a solid thickening of the waist with a flat abdomen, then as solid abdominal musculature.
Just as the lymphatic system requires stimulation to move the waste away from the tissues, the Lymph body type needs continual stimulation in the form of movement and change. It's this constant movement that adds variety to life. Lymph types require a lot of variety through physical activity or mental stimulation to maintain mental clarity and a sense of vitality. Fun loving and playful, they are happiest when they feel excitement, and activity allows them to feel vibrant and alive. Consequently, stimulation, either mental or physical, is essential.
Personality, Relationships & Career
Lymph body types are playful, thriving on constant stimulation, variety and change. They tend to move residence more often than other body types, as this offers variety and change. They are mentally quick and alert, and stimulated by learning. Creative and artistic, they love to express themselves imaginatively, especially with movement - such as dance and music.
Being optimistic and romantic, Lymphs will throw themselves into new relationships. They are very up-front and reveal much of themselves early in a relationship. They seek continual reassurance from partners to avoid feelings of self-doubt, and to feel loveable.
Lymphs seek movement, and often gravitate towards active careers, such as personal training, acting or dance. Avoiding any form of mental or physical stagnation is crucial, so careers with variety are most stimulating for them.
The primary nature of Lymph body types is Mental / Physical. (Read more about these Points of Connection here.)
Exercise for Lymph body types is essential to prevent depression. Lymphatic activation requires full body movement, even if just walking. Exercise also activates the immune system. Early morning exercise for 20 - 60 minutes at least ever other day gets everything moving for Lymphs. Movement can include running, hiking, biking, dancing, swimming, or any aerobic exercises.
For more on exercising specifically for your body type, see the August 2017 Newsletter.
Nutrition, Diet & Weight
Lymph body types are more sensitive to chemicals than most other body types. Organic produce, and hormone-free meats, are especially important for them. Dairy can cause bloating, and fried foods should be avoided. Spicy foods are good as they stimulate the lymphatic system. Rotation of foods is important for them.
The Lymph body type is one of the body types that can thrive on a vegetarian diet. For more about body type and vegetarianism, see the February 2018 Newsletter.
To lose weight: eliminate all dairy except butter, and reduce breads. If fat from appropriate sources falls below 20% of intake, weight loss will be inhibited.
Complete nutritional information including food lists for the Lymph body type can be found on the Lymph Quick Reference Card.
Core Emotional Issues

Release Essential Oil
Release was created to help release anger and memory trauma from the cells of the liver and bring about a sense of peace and emotional well-being. Letting go of negative emotions and releasing frustration enables one to move forward and step into a sense of harmony and balance within the mind and body. Release is the 4th oil in the Feelings Collection assisting you to be On Purpose (January 2018 Newsletter).
For those already familiar with Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, Release can be used to transmute several emotions:
A core emotional issue for the Lymph body type, as well as the Gonadal, is the loss of Identity. It is your personal identity that gives you the sense of who you are. This is the basis of self-esteem and self-worth. The default for not looking within to find your strength and guidance is to look outside and compare ourselves to what we see around us. Looking outside of ourselves leads to self-denial – the basis of chronic disease, getting mixed up with the “wrong” crowd – accepting values that are not in alignment to our own inner knowing, and self-medication with your drug of choice – alcohol, drugs, sex, toxic relationships, thrill seeking, or even food.
Everyone deals with finding their own identity. The tendency for the Lymph and Gonadal types is to identify with the person they have attached themselves to. This tendency is so engrained in their cellular structure, they generally don’t become aware of it until something happens to cause them to look at themselves. This is when they feel they have lost their identity. The other side of identity is Purpose, and the way to connect with your purpose is by using the affirmation, “I am in touch with my purpose.” Release is the oil that holds the frequency that enables you to connect with your purpose and to be on purpose.
Release contains five essential oils that help balance hormones, stimulate the pineal gland and the limbic region of the brain (centers of emotions and memory) that open and elevate the mind: Ylang Ylang, Lavandin, Geranium, Sandalwood and Blue Tansy.
It is intended for aromatic or topical use, although some may experience a skin sensitivity. If skin sensitivity should occur, apply olive oil, butter, coconut oil or shea butter to dilute the essential oil.
For more about Release Essential Oil, see all past newsletters that featured it.
For more information on the use of Essential Oils to release emotions, refer to Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils.
The 2018 Edition of Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils contains 12 new oils and 18 new emotions.
