Issue No. 35

Dear Readers,

I accepted an invitation from Young Living to speak at this year's convention in Salt Lake City, UT on Saturday, June 25. I am scheduled to speak at 12:30 - 1:15pm on Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils.

The best way to lose or maintain your weight without dieting is to eat right for your body type. I explain why in detail below.

This month we look at the Intestinal body type - what motivates them, and how they can resolve Abandoment, which is a core emotional issue for them. Lavender is the essential oil for releasing Abandoment, as described below.

As always, I hope and trust that these newsletters help you enjoy a happier, healthier life.

Health and Happiness,

The Intestinal Body Type

Are you constantly looking for new experiences? Do you have a strong desire to do everything right? Is your basic nature gentle, sensitive and extremely emotional, even though you can be outspoken and direct? Do you have a tendency to internalize when unsure of how to deal with an uncomfortable situation, but have a strong need to “clear the air”? Is your initial response to life emotional – but you don’t always trust your emotions? If this describes you, you could be an Intestinal body type.

Life Lesson and Passion

The life lesson for the Intestinal body type is “to expand, learning from all of life’s experiences.” Their passion, that which gives them the greatest sense of joy and fulfillment, is to “Expand”. Expansion is so much a part of their life experience, that their physical body will expand if they are not expanding mentally, spiritually, or emotionally.

The motivation for change, that which pushes them toward constant expansion, is Restriction. The other side of restriction is mobility, and the affirmation to help you achieve mobility is, “I am free to move forward.” This is a prime example of how everything in your life is set up to keep you focused on achieving your lifetime goal.

Core Emotional Issues

Abandonment is the core emotional issue for the Intestinal body type. Invariably, Intestinals are born into families where they feel they do not belong, where there are major emotional issues that need to be healed. The experience of the Intestinal body type is to leave their family of birth, go out into the world to gain wisdom, come back, and bring healing to the family. Hence, the affirmation, “I embrace all of life’s experiences.”

Additional core emotional issues for Intestinals are: restriction, the feeling of being not good enough, rejection, despair and criticism. All of these emotions are interrelated, with one leading into the other. Start with the emotion that is the most relevant to your current experience, then allow your body to guide you into the next emotion. You may work on several emotions, one following another, or select one and work with that one until it is no longer an issue. The good news is, no matter what you do, it is beneficial.

Dominant Senses

Dominant senses for the Intestinal body type are emotional and spiritual. Highly sensitive and emotional, they feel things most people are unaware of. Heart and Intestinal are the only body types whose dominant senses are emotional and spiritual.

Achieve and Maintain Your Ideal Weight Without Dieting

Have you ever been on a diet, lost weight and then regained it plus a little extra? If this has been your experience, you are not alone.

The New York Times published an article on May 2, 2016, following 14 of the contestants of Season 8 of NBC’s reality television show “The Biggest Loser,” six years after the show ended to see how they were able to manage their weight loss. The results were disappointing. Only one, Erinn Egbert, was able to maintain the weight loss she had achieved and lose additional weight, but maintaining it continues to be a struggle. Everyone’s metabolism now burns fewer calories a day than would be expected for someone their size.

The problem with most diets is that they put the body into a starvation mode. The body becomes more efficient and slows down the metabolic rate. Once a person starts eating again, the body puts on what it has lost plus a little extra to prepare for the next famine. The way out of this cycle is to supply the body with the nutrients it needs without the empty calories that create undue stress.

Excess weight is a symptom and can come from a variety of causes. No wonder it is such a wide spread problem. The bottom line is the body is stressed and out of balance. Attaining and maintaining your ideal weight with optimal health, energy and vitality for a lifetime of good health requires addressing all areas. While the broad categories are the same, the specifics vary from person to person. Fortunately, there are some common denominators that will help you sort through the myriad of options and tailor a program ideal for you.

The broad categories include:
  • Exercise – interval training is an excellent way to increase your metabolic rate. Rebounding activates the lymphatics, tai chi and chi gong activate the meridian system and build internal energy reserves. Cardiovascular burns calories and increases muscle tone.
  • Emotional – is food used as a reward? Do you eat when you are stressed? Do you eat out of boredom? Do you use weight to keep attention away? Is excess weight a buffer for energies you are having trouble handling?
  • Physical – digestive problems resulting in the inability to digest fats, protein or carbohydrates? Do you need to rebuild your digestive tract? Are you producing too much of the adrenal stress hormone, cortisol?
  • Dietary choices – there are basic, universal fundamentals. There are specifics that are related to your body type and then what is appropriate for you and where you are at a specific point in time.
Basic, universal dietary fundamentals:
  • Eliminate refined sugar – these are empty calories that pull nutrients from the body as a requirement to be processed.
  • Avoid refined wheat – soft wheat is a hybrid that the body has difficulty recognizing. This is what is used in breads and pastries.
  • Avoid GMO (genetically modified organism) foods – typically corn, soy, sugar beet, canola, alfalfa, papaya and zucchini squash. They are hard on the digestive system.
  • Drink good pure water – half your weight in ounces, exclusive of soups, coffee and other drinks.
  • Focus on whole natural foods, primarily protein and vegetables – include good quality oils, nuts, seeds, legumes and fruits depending on what is right for your particular body.
Specifics according to your body type:

Of the 25 different body types, the biggest difference is the time of day a person can eat fruit. If your body type is Stomach, like Erinn Egbert, eating fruit in the morning for breakfast, like putting a banana on your cereal, creates stress on the body. However, eating the same meal for lunch, dinner, mid-afternoon or evening snack is fine. If your body type is Heart, like Danny Cahill or Sean Algaier, eating a banana on your oatmeal for breakfast is beneficial and supportive for weight loss. However, eating fruit with or at the end of dinner is not. Eating fruit after lunch will aid in digestion and satisfy sugar cravings.

Some body types, like the Adrenal and Stomach, can thrive on eating protein for dinner and even eating it late, like between 7 and 9 pm. On the other hand, the Pituitary body type does best eating dinner early, 5:30 to 6 pm, and does not digest protein well at dinner. In fact, eating protein for dinner can actually cause them to gain excess weight. But, steak and eggs for breakfast can help them lose weight. When the Adrenal body type eats a large breakfast, it stimulates their digestive system and they want to eat all day long, so unless they are rebuilding their adrenal glands, they are best with something light like fruit, a vegetable, vegetable juice or yogurt or cottage cheese when they have a more demanding day.

Exercise can also vary between different body types. The Lymph body type needs physical or mental stimulation or they get depressed. Physical exercise in the morning gets the system moving and sets the tone for the day. The Adrenal body type, like Oprah Winfrey, are better off exercising after work at the end of the day, to release any accumulated stress. Adrenals are strong and need to move, so running outside is far more effective than a treadmill. The Intestinal body type needs to exercise between 11am and 4pm, as this is when their energy is the highest. Exercising early in the morning or evening is not sustainable, unless there are stronger more motivating factors present.

Knowing your body type validates what you intuitively know and fills in the gaps. It gives you guidelines, direction and a place to start. It is practical and sustainable. The focus is an eating plan that will allow you to attain and maintain your ideal weight, health, energy and vitality. The profile includes the types of restaurants that best support your body type. It even includes a personality profile, identifying your strengths, motivation and characteristic traits. Identifying your body type is easy:

Lavender Essential Oil
The emotional issue that is the most common is Abandonment. It is a core issue for 9 of the 25 body types. While everyone can have abandonment issues, core issues are deeper and are linked to significant life lessons. The 9 body types are Adrenal, Brain, Intestinal, Lung, Pituitary, Skin, Spleen, Stomach, and Thymus.

The other side of Abandonment is At-one-ment; which means being at one with all that is. When you are at one with all that is, there is no separation. Abandonment can not exist when all is one.

The feeling of abandonment is most commonly felt when someone you care about or someone you feel is supposed to take care of you is no longer in the picture. This feeling is often projected to God not being there when our expectations are not met. A deeper understanding of abandonment comes when we look at how we have abandoned ourselves.

Ultimately, we experience what we call negative emotions when there is something we need to learn. With abandonment, it is to embrace all of life’s experiences – this is how we learn.

Criticism is a core emotional issue for the Intestinal and Skin body types. The fear of criticism is stored in the skin. The positive side of Criticism is Unconditional love and acceptance. This means acceptance without judgement, but honoring yourself and others by being discerning as to what is true and right for you. By doing this, you can open yourself to receive.

Lavender essential oil is calming, relaxing and balancing – both physically and emotionally. Therapeutic grade lavender is highly regarded for the skin and may be used to cleanse cuts, bruises and skin irritations.

Examples of topical uses include:
  • Rub on dry, chapped or sunburned skin or lips to soothe
  • Spritz several drops mixed with distilled water onto sunburn to help soothe it
  • Place drop on bee sting or insect bite to reduce pain and swelling
  • Place drop on cut to stop bleeding
  • Place drop on tip of tongue, navel, or behind ears to alleviate symptoms of motion sickness
  • Massage oil on and around scar tissue to minimize its appearance
  • Rub several drops into scalp to help with flaking
  • Rub 2-4 drops into armpit to serve as a deodorant
  • Rub on feet for a calming effect on body

Aromatic uses include:
  • Rub a drop on palms and on pillow to help you sleep
  • Rub on palms and inhale to alleviate the symptoms of hay fever or allergies
  • Place a few drops on a wet cloth and toss into dryer to deodorize and freshen laundry
  • Place a few drops on cotton ball and place in linen closet to scent linens and help repel moths and insects
  • Diffuse into air to support body’s natural defenses against airborne sensitivities to the skin and immune system
  • Inhale for relaxation (University of Miami research shows this increases brain beta waves)
  • Diffuse in office area for increased concentration
