Summer Family Dynamics

Families, just like everything else in life, have their positive, as well as, their negative or stressful sides. The reality is, if it were not for the “negative” or stressful situations in our lives, we would never grow.

The more sensitive, introverted personalities, like Blood, Eye or Thyroid, need a safe environment to explore their negative, recessive, shadow sides. The more extraverted personalities, like Adrenal, Pancreas or Stomach, are generally less discerning and will express themselves whenever they are triggered.

Life is about learning from our experiences and finding balance. For some, there are long pendulum swings, with, ”everything has to be perfect” – at least on the outside – to, something snaps and their whole world comes crashing down – generally expressed through relationships, finance, or health. Some people choose to be more proactive, realizing this is a world of duality so everything has its positive and negative polarity. Emotions supply the energy that drives us and can be divided into two major groups: Love and Fear. We tend to categorize emotions that are love-based as positive, and those that are fear-based as negative.

In Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils, I take an emotion, like Anger, which most people perceive as negative, and identify the other side, Laughter, generally perceived as positive. However, there are situations in life where anger can actually be a positive force, like when someone needs to get angry to move them out of a situation that no longer serves them. Conversely, laughter can also be expressed negatively, as in a sarcastic laugh or when someone is being made fun of and laughed at. The reality is all emotions have their place, it is just about learning how to listen and act appropriately.

cover_adrenal.jpg Families are designed to be that safe learning environment, with the guidance of a wise, loving parent or guardian. Childhood learning phases are age related and predictable, like, ”the terrible 2’s” and the teen years where a child is discovering their own individuality. The Psychological Profile in the Body Type Profile & Diet takes 20 years of introspection and condenses it into 4 pages answering the questions of “Who am I?” “What motivates me?” “What is my passion?” “What are my strengths?” “What are my challenges?” and “What do I do to turn my challenges into strengths?”

Knowing your child’s body type gives you the information you need to help them develop their strengths and deal with their challenges. Rarely is everyone in the same family the same body type, so relying on personal experience is not always enough. A mom with a Thyroid body type, who is naturally a logical, organized doer (mental) could be frustrated by a Kidney son who wants to be flexible, just doing what he feels like doing in the moment (emotional) constantly procrastinating and motivated by distress. Being aware that the Kidney body type procrastinates when they don’t feel they have all the answers they need or can’t do something perfectly and it takes the pressure of a deadline to get them started on a task, Mom tells son he needs to finish a chore or task before he can go out and play with his friends. Knowing Kidneys need the stimulation of new concepts and projects, Mom finds new activities and adventures. She selects summer camps that introduce different fields and new experiences, so if son has been playing softball all year, she would send him to something like a theater camp.

Summer is the time when schedules are more relaxed and there is more time for personal interactions, which inevitably means pushing each other’s buttons. Teaching children how to transmute their negative emotions into the positive is the most valuable gift you can give them. Young children in particular will mirror back their parents’ unresolved issues, which is why it is essential when an emotion surfaces, the entire family use the oil and affirmation to transmute the emotion.

Are You a Thalamus Body Type?
A great example of a Thalamus body type is Jennifer Aniston's character in "Rumor Has It"

Are you known for collecting and evaluating information? Do you like to be efficient, even a perfectionist? Are you very sensitive to your physical and emotional environment, and easily stressed by noise?
Then you may be a Thalamus body type.

bodytype.jpg

Celebrities with Thalamus body type include Taylor Swift, Mark Zuckerberg, Prince Charles, Nicole Kidman, Helen Hunt, Patrick Swayze, Cindy Crawford, Jennifer Anniston, and Natalie Portman.

Are you a Thalamus body type? You might be, if:
  • You have a strong, inquiring mind and a need to understand how and why things are
  • You prefer situations to be black-and-white, and procrastinate or deliberate when they are vague or complicated
  • You are known for collecting and evaluating information
  • You like your environment to be well organized
  • You are very sensitive to your physical and emotional surroundings, and easily stressed by noise
  • You are known for collecting and evaluating information
  • You like to be effective, and tend to be a perfectionist
  • You are open minded and willing to change, when new information is presented

If this describes you, you could be a Thalamus body type.

Appearance

Women with the Thalamus body type are generally average to tall, with small to medium bone structure, and a slender, delicate appearance. They have a high, wide or dominant forehead, and may have difficulty gaining weight. Weight gain begins in the lower abdomen, face, and upper hips and thighs.

Thalamus men range from average to very tall, with a medium bone structure and a high, wide or dominant forehead. They have a long, slender appearance overall, with thin-to-average thighs. They have a moderate ability to attain muscle definition in the torso with a basic exercise program. May have difficulty gaining weight, but if they do, it begins as a solid thickening around the waist with minimal or no gain in the abdomen.

Essence

Just as the thalamus collects information and files it for storage in the cerebral cortex or brain, Thalamus body types collect and evaluate information. They like to be effective and tend to be perfectionists. Just as they readily take in information, they are just as willing to let it go as new data becomes available, making them open-minded and willing to change.

Personality, Relationships & Career

The primary nature of Thalamus body types is Mental / Spiritual. (Read more about the Points of Connection.)

Even as children, Thalamus body types like to have their toys neat and organized. They are characterized by their sensitivity to, and awareness of, their physical and emotional surroundings. They have superb organizational skills, and are likely to have a filing cabinet in their bedroom.

Investigative and analytical, they learn easily and enjoy research topics of interest to them. They strive for excellence, and work well independently. They are dependable - once they begin a project, they will maintain momentum and complete it.

They are responsible and loyal. In relationships, they are gentle, loving and giving. They have a strong social nature, they tend to be patient, tactful and sympathetic to others. Being sensitive with a mild-mannered and easygoing personality, they tend to internalize rather than express their anger.

Exercise

For Thalamus body types, exercise helps calm the mind. Daily exercise is best, even if just a few minutes at a time scattered throughout the day. Walking, tennis, swimming, and callanetics are best. Almost any other activities - dance, volleyball, racquetball - are acceptable. Jogging and running are not good choices for Thalamus.

For more on exercising specifically for your body type, see the August 2017 Newsletter.

Nutrition, Diet & Weight

Thalamus body types do well with a focus on seeds, beans, vegetables and protein. Eat more cooked than raw vegetables. Limit fruit to breakfast and evening snacks. Consume adequate protein and fats to maintain energy, including snacks or frequent meals.

Thalamus is NOT one of the body types that can thrive on a vegetarian diet. For more about body type and vegetarianism, see the February 2018 Newsletter.

To lose weight, eliminate all sugar, alcohol, honey, and artificial sweeteners; avoid frut juice, minimize bread and butter.

Core Emotional Issues

Each of the 25 body types encounters certain core emotional issues or lessons to overcome in life. For Thalamus, these are:
  • Fear of Dependence - released with Peppermint Essential Oil, "I am self-sufficient", transmutes to Freedom
  • Fear of Failure - also released using Peppermint Essential Oil, "I accept growth", transmutes to Unfoldment

Lemon Essential Oil
to Transmute Entitlement into Compassion and Respect
essential_oil.jpg

Entitlement shows up when people expect someone else to take care of them, support them, or give them what they want without doing or giving anything in return. This state of mind occurs when a person is self-centered, negative and thinking only of themselves. It can be difficult when a person is deeply enmeshed in a negative state to think of anything other than what they are feeling at the moment. The beauty of essential oils is their ability to hold a positive vibrational frequency which can lift someone out of their negative emotional state.

Respectful is the other side of Entitlement and does include being realistic. Being compassionate requires being considerate and understanding of another person, helping them grow and be self-reliant rather than enabling and keeping them dependent. Helping them to see how they can do it and stand on their own two feet builds their self-respect, allows you to maintain your own self-respect, and allows them to respect you.

Shifting a deep seeded problem like entitlement requires understanding, which can be done through asking and answering several questions: What is Entitlement? (What/Emotion) How does it show up? What causes Entitlement? (Why/Understanding) What is not working? What needs to change? (Alarm Point) What is the trigger? Where do you want to go? What are you changing to? (Other Side) How to make the change? (Way Out), How to hold the highest vibrational frequency? (Oil)

These questions will help you understand why you are experiencing a particular emotion, how you created it, what you need to learn from it and how you can change it. This is how you can become the master of your life, rather than the effect.

Lemon oil is great for transmuting other emotions, including frustration, sadness, emptiness, regret/remorse, life being unreliable, detachment, feeling stuck, suffocated and jealousy. The underlying emotion of jealousy is the fear of being left behind.

In addition to its emotional benefits, Lemon oil has a multitude of practical daily uses. Lemon oil has antiseptic-like properties and contains compounds that have been studied for their effects on immune function. It may serve as an insect repellent and may be beneficial for the skin. (Caution: Citrus oils should not be applied to skin that will be exposed to direct sunlight or ultraviolet light within 72 hours).

Recommended uses:
  • Using 1-2 drops of Lemon oil may remove gum, oil, grease spots or crayon
  • Using 1 drop of Lemon oil helps to add flavor to baked goods or beverages
  • Rubbing a drop of Lemon oil on a corn, callous or bunion mornings and evenings is soothing
  • To clean and increase the shelf life of fresh fruit, fill a bowl with cool water and 2-3 drops of Lemon oil. Drop your cleaned fruit into the water and stir. Be sure all surfaces of the fruit contact the lemon water
  • Soaking your dishcloth or sponge overnight in a bowl of water with a drop of Lemon oil sanitizes it
  • Adding a drop of Lemon oil to your dishwasher before the wash cycle helps in cleaning
  • Rub a drop of Lemon oil on your hands after using a public bathroom to help disinfect
  • Use a paper towel soaked with several drops of Lemon oil to help sanitize the bathroom fixtures
  • Putting a drop of Lemon oil on oily skin or skin blemishes helps balance oil glands
  • Rubbing two drops of Lemon oil topically helps in clearing athlete’s foot
  • Rubbing several drops of Lemon oil on legs helps improve circulation
  • Rub Lemon oil on butcher’s block or other cutting surfaces to clean and disinfect
  • Put 10-15 drops of Lemon oil in each gallon of carpet cleaning solution to help pull out stains and brighten the rug. This also leaves a fresh smell in the room
  • Rubbing several drops of Lemon oil on cellulite may improve circulation and help eliminate waste from the cells

revita2.jpg For homemade lemonade: In a blender mix 2 drops of Lemon oil, 2 tablespoons of honey or 1 packet of Lemon-Lime ReVita to two to four cups of pure water. Adjust ingredients to suit your own taste
