How to Manage Holiday Stress



Holidays were intended to be a time of joy, getting together with friends and loved ones, and with shorter days, a time to rest a bit after a busy harvest. The reality for the vast majority of Americans is an even busier schedule with preparing for entertaining, shopping for gifts, and attending holiday parties. All of this activity is intended to be fun, but when you are physically or emotionally exhausted, it becomes a stress.


How to Reduce Stress

Take care of your body . Reduce physical stress by getting enough sleep, exercising regularly, and keeping sugar (including alcohol) to a minimum – as it will depress your immune system leaving you more susceptible to colds and flu.

Honor your body type . Eat the foods that support you and keep the stressful ones to once a month. Pay attention to the time of day you can eat fruit, as well as protein. Make sure you are drinking enough plain, good quality water.

Address emotional stress . Unresolved emotional stress tends to build and when it can no longer be contained, it explodes. The explosion can be outward in the form of anger, inappropriate behavior, or even road rage. When the explosion is internal, it manifests as tension, headaches, indigestion, physical symptoms or chronic illness. Other common symptoms include fatigue, irritability and/or depression.


How to Address Unresolved Issues

Getting together with family can be a time when unresolved childhood issues surface. The key to resolution is to take personal responsibility and seriously look at your role in the situation. If you find yourself being accused of something, honestly ask yourself if there is any truth in it. If so, identify the emotion – is it fear of rejection, not being loved, abandonment, criticism, being wrong or out of control? Refer to Releasing Emotional Patterns with Essential Oils for additional emotions, the positive or other side of the emotion, the lesson or way out of the situation, where the emotion is held in the body, the essential oil that holds the positive frequency and how to transmute the negative emotion to its positive polarity.

If you find there is no truth in the accusation and you are emotionally clear around it, look at it as a cry for help. Helping the other person can be as simple as, “I feel anger and I am going to transmute it into laughter.” Then grab your bottle of Purification and apply it to your liver points on your hands and your emotional points on your forehead (may also include other head points) and offer a drop of Purification to them. If they are receptive, show them where to apply the oil themselves and feel the anger, then laughter and say the affirmation, “My direction is clear.” If they are not receptive, apply Purification to yourself and say the emotions and affirmation out loud so they can hear it. The human body is a great diffuser so they will still derive benefit even though they do not have the oil on them. If you have someone who is not receptive, but needs comforting, you can put Purfication, or any other appropriate oil, on your hands, take their hands and brush your hand over their head over the points. Allow yourself to be sensitive to their needs.


Managing Expectations

Most relationship stress comes from expectations. We have expectations of others and they have expectations of us. It is impossible to meet everyone’s expectations of us all the time – life will see to that! The only way out is to let go of our expectations by being complete within ourselves, in other words, self-sufficient. When you do not expect anything from anyone, you can accept anything you receive from them as a gift with appreciation and gratitude. This brings true freedom.

Another stress point in relationships is we think that everyone thinks the way we think and if they don’t agree with us, it is only because they don’t understand so explaining it to them will make a difference. Wrong, it doesn’t work that way. Not everyone is motivated by the same thing and we have different strengths and challenges. Reading the Personality Profile of another person’s body type will go a long way in your understanding who they are and what motivates them, as well as their strengths and challenges. If you have not already done so, exploring the body types of your family members will give you greater understanding and appreciation for them. It can also open the door for meaningful conversations and relationship healing.

Are You a Nervous System Body Type?

Would your friends describe you as strong-willed, determined, intense, take-charge, and somewhat forceful? Do you tend to express your viewpoints forcefully and with emotion? Is listening to others an adventure for you? Then you may be a Nervous System body type.

Celebrities with Nervous System body type include Ellen DeGeneres, Michael Phelps, Jim Carrey, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sandra Bullock, Don Knotts, Michael Jordan, Snoop Dogg, and Van Jones.


Are you a Nervous System body type? You might be, if:
  • You have an abundance of nervous energy that you manifest through a myriad of activities
  • You are strong willed and determined – sometimes perceived as abrasive
  • You are direct, intense, take-charge, and somewhat forceful
  • You are happiest when passing information from one person to another, or connecting people based on their needs, desires and interests
  • You are curious about what others know and how they do things
  • You are gregarious and outgoing, but can be reserved when appropriate
  • You tend to express your viewpoints forcefully and with emotion

If this describes you, you could be a Nervous System body type.


Appearance

Nervous System body types have strong, integrated bodies, high energy, and excellent stamina.

Nervous System women can range from petite to very tall, often with a high forehead and shoulders that are relatively even with hips. Initial weight gain is primarily lower body in the lower abdomen, thighs, hips and waist, similar to a "pear" body shape.

Nervous System men have a long-limbed appearance, especially the arms. Their shoulders are even with hips or just slightly broader. Initial weight gain is a thickening around the waist with little to no abdominal gain.


Essence

Just as the nervous system connects all parts of the body and keeps the brain informed of what is happening, Nervous System body types enjoy listening to others and connecting people according to their needs, desires, or interest. Practical and efficient, they are happiest when they are connecting people and ideas. Nervous System types tend to have an abundance of nervous energy and manifest it through a myriad of activities. For Nervous System types, listening to others is an adventure.


Personality, Relationships & Career

With their strong physical presence and mental focus, Nervous System body types are characterized and easily recognized by their direct, intense (often forceful), take-charge manner. It’s very easy for them to come into a situation and verbally take over. They thrive on a lot of activity and love to get things moving, so they tend to go around connecting people. This gives them a great sense of joy and fulfillment, since they derive most of their knowledge and stimulation from others and their interactions with them.

Gregarious and outgoing, Nervous Systems are in their element in social gatherings where they can circulate and introduce people to one another. They love being the force that gets things moving. Sensitive to the needs of other people, they are good at providing emotional support to friends and family. Giving compliments, reassurances, and encouragement comes naturally for Nervous Systems.

Born leaders, Nervous Systems are energetic, determined and achievement oriented, as well as logical, practical and efficient. While mentally focused, they are flexible and spontaneous enough to let life flow. Since listening and service are synonymous for the Nervous System, and creativity is best expressed when it involves other people, doing things for them such as organizing social events or doing social volunteer work makes their lives fulfilling.

Exercise

Exercise for Nervous System body types activates the immune system and relieves emotional stress. At least 20 minutes every other day is recommended. All over body movement is best - such as yoga, swimming, biking, aerobics or dance. Activities including interaction with others are more supportive.

Nutrition, Diet & Weight

Nervous System body types do best when healthy with a protein-heavy breakfast, raw vegetables with lunch, and cooked vegetables with dinner. Fruit should be avoided at dinner.

Getting adequate fats and proteins is important for this body type. Olive oil helps relieve constipation, potatoes support the lungs, and whey aids digestion of carbohydrates.

Nervous System is one of the body types that cannot thrive on a vegetarian diet. For more about body type and vegetarianism, see the February 2018 Newsletter.

To lose weight, reduce grains and sugars (including fruit); and consume the majority of the day's food before 2:00 PM.

Core Emotional Issues

Each of the 25 body types encounters certain core emotional issues or lessons to overcome in life. For Nervous Sytem, these are:
  • Victim - released with Peace & Calming essential oil, "I am real", transmutes to Self-Responsible
  • Anger - released using Purification essential oil, "My direction is clear", transmutes to Laughter
  • Control - released using Peace & Calming essential oil, "I am content and blessed", transmutes to Balance
  • F--- You - released using Frankincense essential oil, "I stand in my power", transmutes to Detachment

Purification Essential Oil

Core emotional issues for the Nervous System body type include Anger, which is transmuted with Purification Essential Oil. We all experience all of the emotions, it is just that for some people – and I have found a correlation with body type - a particular emotion will be more of an issue than others.

Purification Essential Oil is used to release several emotional patterns - including fear of Being Alone, and fear of Rejection. While Anger is an emotion everyone can relate to, it is also a core issue for the Liver and Thymus body types.

Purification Essential Oil holds the frequency of Laughter and is the oil used to transmute Anger into Laughter. Releasing an emotional pattern that limits you requires understanding the issue and how it affects your life. A core emotional issue is a recurring theme in your life that impulses you to grow as a person. These are the emotions that show up as recurrent themes, trip you up more frequently, and require more understanding and attention. The other side – positive quality – is often your greatest strength.

Purification is an essential oil blend of Citronella, Lemongrass, Rosemary, Melaleuca Alternifolia, Lavandin, and Myrtle. Purification was formulated for diffusing to purify and cleanse the air, neutralizing mildew, cigarette smoke, and disagreeable odors.

Other uses include:
  • Put several drops of Purification on a cotton ball and place in the air vents in the home, office, hotel room or other enclosed area to help control odors
  • While traveling, inhale Purification during flights to help in protecting yourself from pathogens found in the recirculated air
  • Put a drop of Purification on insect bites to help cleanse and stop the itching
  • Apply a drop of Purification on blemishes to help clear the skin
  • Rub a drop of Purification on the outside of the throat to soothe irritation
  • Rub a drop of Purification on blisters to help cleanse and sanitize
  • Put 2 drops of Purification on two cotton balls and place in the toes of smelly sneakers to help combat odors
  • Add 2 drops to a wet cloth and place in clothes dryer to freshen laundry
  • Place a drop of Purification on each end of a cotton swab and place on top of your cold water humidifier to help clean the air
  • Dilute vegetable oil with Purification and Peppermint oil on a cotton swab and rub just inside the ears of cats and dogs to help with ear mites
