Dear Readers,

I will be one of the speakers at a full day workshop called "Life Illuminated: the Art of Conscious Living" on Saturday February 10 in San Diego. Click here for information and tickets.

With the treats-laden holiday season just around the corner, many wonder how to avoid putting on extra pounds. This month I offer some tips and recipes for healthy holiday sweets.

Brain body types are known for gathering information in detail before making decisions. This month we look at what's unique about the Brain body type.

Inner Child Essential Oil Blend is the third of the 6 oils in the Young Living Feelings Collection, which we are exploring individually.

As always, I hope and trust that these newsletters help you enjoy a happier, healthier life.

Health and Happiness,

Healthy, Satisfying Holiday Sweets (with Recipes!)

holiday_treats.jpg

We all know refined sugar is a substance to avoid – but it is in everything! Besides, how do you have a celebration without sweets? Once you have made the commitment to yourself to make the extra effort and eat healthy, how do you handle the desert part of a meal?

Fruit

Fruit is an easy, natural, healthy answer, except it is not that simple – especially when you are serving people who have different body types. Of the 25 body types, 8 should not have fruit for dinner – this includes immediately after as dessert. These 8 body types are: Blood, Heart, Hypothalamus, Lung, Lymph, Nervous System, Skin, and Thalamus. The Intestinal, Liver, and Pancreas can have fruit for dinner when they are healthy, but when their systems are stressed, it is best to avoid it. The Balanced, Gonadal, and Pineal types can have fruit for lunch or dinner, but not for both – and this varies from individual to individual.

The types that should avoid fruit for lunch are the Gallbladder and Kidney – and sometimes Balanced and Brain. The types that feel best when they avoid fruit for lunch and dinner are: Blood, Hypothalamus, Lymph and Thalamus. Balanced, Gonadal, Heart, Intestinal, Kidney, Liver, Pancreas, Pineal and Stomach types may need to avoid fruit for both lunch and dinner when stressed.

The reason that fruit is not beneficial for all body types at all times of day is the high sugar content of fruit - which affects the metabolism of different body types differently, depending up the dominant gland or organ. One indication you're having difficulty with what you're eating is the need to take a nap after a meal.

The good news is all 25 body types can have fruit as an evening snack, so there is no need to feel deprived regardless of what type you are. Other sweets follow these same guidelines, so if you are better off avoiding fruit for dinner, avoid the other sweets as well. You can however eat nuts with Pink Salt, cheese or yogurt if these are good foods for you.

Sweeteners

There is a common belief that Honey is a healthy alternative to sugar, so if you have been told you need to avoid sugar, eating foods that contain honey are fine. If you are an Eye, Lung, Pancreas, Pineal or Spleen and eating the foods with honey at the times of day when you can eat fruit, this is true. However, if your body type happens to be Blood, Brain, Heart, Lymph or Skin honey should be limited to once a month or less. The other 15 body types can use honey in moderation – meaning 1 to 2 times per week – when they are healthy, and rarely – once a month or less – when sensitive or stressed.

Another common sweetener is Maple Syrup. Lung and Pancreas can use Maple syrup frequently – 3 to 7 times per week – when healthy and in moderation when sensitive. The Eye body type can use Maple syrup frequently when healthy, but only rarely when sensitive. Blood, Gallbladder, Intestinal, Kidney, and Lymph are best when they keep Maple syrup to a minimum regardless of their health level. The other 17 types can use Maple syrup up to 2 times per week when healthy, but rarely when sensitive.

Stevia is another common sweetener, which fortunately, is good for all 25 body types when they are healthy and good in moderation when any one is stressed.

Re-Vita is a product I was introduced to over twenty years ago. Its base is spirulina and was developed as an answer for world hunger. When I looked at the ingredients with the first one being fructose, I thought, “There is no way this stuff is going to test out.” I was amazed when I found about 90% of my patients tested well with it, and this included the sensitive ones! Re-Vita contains 18 amino acids, 27 essential vitamins and minerals and enzymes. The fructose acts as a carrier to transport the amino acids across the blood brain barrier, and gives it a sweet taste so it can be used as a sweetener. All 25 body types can use Re-Vita frequently when healthy and moderately when sensitive. I have included some recipes below to give you some ideas on how to use it.

Agar/Re-Vita Cranberry Mold

Agar is an excellent substitute for gelatin because gelatin is derived from animal products and agar is derived from seaweed. The seaweed is processed into flavorless flakes and powders that solidify if too much is used. When less is used, Agar is a good gelatin substitute, particularly for vegans and vegetarians. It is also known as "agar-agar" or "kanten."

4 TBSP Agar-Agar Sea Vegetable Gelatin Flakes
4 cups Water
1 packet Berry Re-Vita LiquaHealth
1 cup chopped cranberries
1 chopped apple
1 orange cut into chunks
1/2 cup chopped celery
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans
1/4 cup crushed pineapple (optional)

Bring 4 cups water to a boil and add 4 TBSP agar-agar. Stir until flakes dissolve. Remove from heat and pour into glass bowl. Add packet of Berry Re-Vita and stir. Combine the rest of the ingredients and pour into agar mixture. Place in refrigerator until firm - about an hour.

Apple Cranberry Bake

applecranberrybake.jpg Peel and slice 4 Granny Smith apples and place in casserole dish.
Sprinkle juice of ½ lemon over the apples.
Add a layer of 1 lb. fresh or frozen cranberries.
Drizzle 2 servings of Berry or Vanilla Re-Vita over the cranberries.
Top with 1 cup fine cut oatmeal to which 2 Tablespoons of butter and ½ teaspoon cinnamon have been added.

Bake in 350 degree oven for 30 to 45 minutes or until apples become soft.

Chocolate/Nut Butter Rice Krispies

2 cups organic Rice Krispies
1 cup crunchy almond butter (may also use organic peanut butter, hazelnut, or other nut butter)
1 or 2 chocolate bars (70 to 85% dark chocolate)
1 TBSP coconut oil
1/4 tsp Pink Salt or Himalayan Salt
1 packet Vanilla or Berry Re-Vita

Place pan with chocolate and nut butter into double boiler (pan filled with hot--boiling water). When chocolate and nut butter have melted, remove pan from heat and add Rice Krispies, coconut oil, salt, and Re-Vita. Mix well, pour into casserole pan that has been greased with coconut oil, press down to edges of pan. For extra sweetening and minerals, dribble Re-Vita over dish. Refrigerate for about an hour or until firm, and cut into squares.

Lemonade

Juice a Lemon and put it in a quart jar along with 1 to 2 packets of Lemon/Lime ReVita, then add water to fill jar.

Cranberry Juice

Add 1 packet Berry ReVita to ¼ tsp unsweetened Cranberry concentrate and add water to fill a 8-12 oz. glass, depending on your taste.

Are You a Brain Body Type?

Brain Body Types are noted for gathering information in detail, as they like to have all possible knowledge on a subject before making a decision

brain.jpg

Celebrities with Brain body type include Meryl Streep, Edward Norton, Jerry Seinfeld, Andre Agassi, Uma Thurman, Sting, Jeff Bezos, Ben Stiller, Robin Williams, and Charlize Theron.

Are you a Brain body type? You might be, if:
  • Being “right” is a high priority for you
  • You are mentally oriented and inclined to precision
  • You like being in control because if you’re not, things fall apart
  • You experience “brain fog” and struggle with decisions if tired or depressed
  • You have a strong desire to relate to and connect with others

If this describes you, you could be a Brain body type.

Appearance

Brain body type men have a dominant forehead and commanding eyes, broad shoulders and naturally solid musculature in torso. They typically display a frontal hair loss pattern. Musculature definition in the torso is easy to attain with light exercise. Brain body type women typically have a striking face with piercing or commanding eyes, a dominant forehead and large breasts. Weight gain begins as a solid thickening of waist or entire abdomen for men, and for women weight gain begins with the breasts, hips and lower abdomen.

Personality, Relationships & Career

Brain body types are very conscientious and inclined towards precision and accuracy. They are typically independent and self-directed, and tend to think more creatively and less conventionally than others. They are driven by a need to be correct, and will often evaluate the results of their decisions in order to learn from them. They are overly concerned with making mistakes or appearing stupid. When fatigued, Brain types have a difficult time making the simplest decisions. Pampering and nurturing the self helps Brain body types connect their feelings and intellect.

The primary nature of Brain body types is physical / mental. Read more about these Points of Connection here.

Exercise

Exercise is optional for Brain types, as the primary benefit is physical – redistributing energy from the head to the body. Walking, aerobics, tennis, biking, or moderate weight training are all good choices. Exercise for Brain types should be fun or nurturing – such as a meditative walk. Brain types can easily attain muscular definition with minimal exercise.

Nutrition, Diet & Weight

Brain body types benefit from avoiding protein before 11:00 AM, and making lunch the largest meal of the day. Organic tofu is an excellent protein source for them. Brain is one of the body types that can have fruit any time of the day (when their system is not stressed), and daily fruits and vegetables are beneficial for them. Smaller meals with snacks in between are support for Brain types. Brain types are especially sensitive to chemicals, so organic foods and especially chemical-free chicken and turkey are best.

For weight loss, limit dense proteins and breads. Eat breakfast at 10:00, lunch at 2:00, and dinner at 6:00-7:00. Have no protein before 11:00, and exercise 40 minutes daily. For Brain body types weight gain/loss is largely mental, so a mindset of being thin is helpful.

Complete nutritional information including food lists for the Brain body type can be found on the Brain Quick Reference Card.

Core Emotional Issues

The core emotional issues for Brain body types are Fear of Abandonment, Being Wrong, Addiction and Abuse.

The other side of Abandonment is at-one-ment, the feeling of being one with all that is. This feeling is stored in the small intestine, accessed using Lavender essential oil with the statement, "I learn from all of life's experiences". The opposite of Being Wrong is knowingness. This feeling is stored in the accessory spleen, accessed using Release essential oil and the statement "I am true to my Source". Addiction is stored in the brain. The opposite is Freedom, accessed using Peace & Calming essential oil with the statement, "I am wanted and loveable". Abuse is stored in cellular memory, and the opposite is nurtured. This is accessed using SARA essential oil and the statement, "I deserve to be loved".

Inner Child Essential Oil
innerchild.jpg

The third oil in the Feelings Collection is Inner Child. Inner Child brings about your Inner Connection. Our Inner Connection is our connection with our inner self that is at the core of who we are. Emotional trauma and/or abuse cuts us off from our connection with our inner self and inner guidance, resulting in looking outside ourselves for guidance, approval and validation. Connecting with your inner self or inner child allows you to accept your life as it was and see what you have learned, rather than blaming your childhood for everything.

The first oil in the Feelings Collection is Forgiveness which allows us to connect with Truth enabling us to learn from all of life’s experiences. The second oil is Harmony, which brings about Elevation giving us the opportunity to rise above the pain and hurts to value life. (See October and November 2017, newsletters for more information.)

To go deeper into clearing emotional patterns that limit your ability to connect with your inner self, work with the emotions associated with Inner Child. These feelings, experiences or emotions are: Clearing cellular memory, Desertion, Distortion and Erratic energy.

Inner Child Essential Oil is a blend containing orange, tangerine, jasmine, ylang ylang, royal Hawaiian sandalwood, spruce, lemongrass and neroli.

Inner Child can be used NEAT (undiluted) by:
  • Applying 1 to 2 drops on wrists, edge of ears, neck, temples, navel and/or feet
  • Diffusing
  • Inhaling directly
  • Adding 2 to 4 drops to bath water
  • Diluting 1:15 with vegetable oil for body massage
  • Adding 2 drops to a wet cloth and put in clothes dryer
  • Putting 4 to 8 drops on cotton ball and placing on vents

Possible sun sensitivity, avoid direct exposure to sunlight for up to 12 hours after use. Could result in skin sensitivity.
