Linda, a nurse, is a Skin body type who, like most Skins, puts on weight easily; she has spent a lifetime struggling to lose it. When Skin body types do lose weight, the odds for keeping it off are against them. As is typical for her body type, Linda had been overweight since childhood. She had tried countless weight loss programs, but wasn’t able to lose her extra pounds and keep from gaining more. As an overweight child, she was placed on doctor prescribed amphetamines to help her lose weight when she was only 10 years old.
Linda tried every kind of diet imaginable, from vegetarian to liquid to Weight Watchers to Jenny Craig to Overeaters Anonymous, among others. She’d even tried radical fasting. On some diets, Linda lost muscle rather that fat, while the deprivation on others caused her to return to her old eating patterns. The liquid diets included too many artificial sweeteners for her sensitive Skin system.
We planned a diet that would support Linda’s body type, help her lose excess pounds and eventually maintain her proper weight. Timing of her meals was also an important factor. Linda felt best when she ate her largest meal at noon and a light, early dinner. At the end of six months, Linda had lost 30 pounds by making important changes in her eating habits.
