What's Your Personality Type?


When I look at the basic nature of a person, I consider four traits: mental, emotional, physical and spiritual. We are born with two of these traits dominant, which defines how we perceive the world and interact with others. The other two traits are recessive, and we develop them as we grow.

Being more “mental” than “emotional” doesn’t mean we don’t feel or experience our emotions – it means that we trust what we think about a situation more than our feelings about it. A “mental” will typically make an informed, logical decision before a “gut” decision. The more information that supports the decision, the more confidant the decision becomes. An emotional type will trust a decision that “feels” right regardless of information that’s available.

Likewise, being more “physical” than “spiritual” isn’t about a belief system – it means we are comfortable in our bodies and interpret situations literally or at face value, rather than trusting based on concept or ideal. A spiritual nature embodies the ability to trust in a concept or an idea, even if it’s unproven in a physical way. A physical type is often characterized by a wide, grounded stance, while a spiritual type will stand with their feet together. A physical will walk directly into a room full of people and establish themselves, while a spiritual is more likely to quietly observe before making their presence known. Spiritual types tend to be more sensitive to the feelings of others, while physicals use action as a reaction.

Each of the 25 body types is born with a specific pair of these basic personality traits dominant. The combinations are physical/mental, spiritual/mental, physical/emotional and physical/mental. Here the 25 body types are grouped based upon their dominant innate personality traits.

Human civilization is highly suited to those with a physical/mental disposition; the polar opposite, the spiritual/emotional type, is more prone to feeling they don’t fit in as well, and of the 25 body types only two have this disposition.

The Heart body type is one of these two spiritual/emotional types. True to their name, as well as their emotional nature, Hearts exude an approachability and a sensitivity to others that is truly heartfelt. Their amplified feelings often take them on an emotional roller coaster ride, when it appears to others they are blowing things out of proportion. When they attain inner emotional peace with self, their spiritual nature allows them to be happy regardless of physical circumstances.

Like the Heart body type, Gonadal body types (physical/emotional) are prone to being controlled by their emotions, and are also very sensitive to the feelings of others. Being more people-oriented (emotional) than task-oriented (mental), they understand when emotional support is needed and they provide it. They often pursue careers such as hairdresser or interior designer, working with others and creating physical beauty, with less of a mental focus. Gonadals are happiest when everything is light and playful, with high sexual energy which increases their physical attractiveness.

While Gonadals embody the physical aspects of their nature in a playful or sexual way, Adrenal body types (physical/mental) present more of a brute force appearance with their strong, commanding physical presence and energy. They like to mentally examine problems from multiple angles to arrive at a practical solution. They may appear to have a short attention span because once they’ve figured out a solution their alert mind wants to move on to something else and leave the details to others.

The Thryoid body type embodies the spiritual/mental type. Like the spiritual Heart body type, Thyroids are very sensitive to the feelings and emotions of others, and exhibit a strong compassion or empathy for them. Having the mental instead of the emotional characteristic allows them to be more self-sufficient emotionally, and when confrontation is needed, they can wait until they feel the time is right and will go to lengths to prepare so that the other person is not offended. Their mental nature affords the ability to study and understand complex concepts in depth.

Understanding our own nature, and the nature of those around us, helps us relate better to each other. Emotional and mental types express very differently. Physical and spiritual types approach the same problem or task differently. Learning to understand each other not only improves communication, but also helps us to expand our own recessive traits, and grow.

Celebrities with Adrenal body type include Oprah Winfrey, Whoopi Goldberg, Arnold Swartzenegger, Bruce Willis, Serena Williams, Channing Tatum, Kanye West, Pink, Jay Mohr, Garth Brooks, and Simon Cowell.

Are you an Adrenal body type? You might be, if:
  • You have a strong physical presence with high energy, physical strength, and endurance
  • You can easily build muscle mass and definition with traditional exercises
  • You are naturally outgoing and often competitive, with a dominant personality
  • You strive for visible measures of success
  • Afternoon or evening exercise helps you to release the adrenaline built up from the stress of the day
  • You easily gain weight in the abdomen and thighs
  • You are able to lose weight with “traditional” diets

If this describes you, you could be an Adrenal body type.


Appearance

Adrenal body types have a strong presence, physically and energetically, with broad shoulders and a wide, grounded stance. Heavy natural musculature all over gives a stocky appearance. For men, the appearance is that of a typical linebacker. Initial weight gain is in the abdomen, as a “beer belly” with “love handles”. Women appear “boyish” with a straight waist, strong natural musculature, and forceful presence. The physical presence is supported by a dynamic, strong willed personality.


Personality, Relationships & Career

Adrenals thrive on excitement and obvious success. Physical expressions of success may include cars, money, recognition or acceptance. Their dynamic nature and strong presence often place them into leadership positions. Highly competitive, they also gravitate towards contact sports and sales positions. They like to be in control, and are good starters, but like to complete and finish tasks, then move on, or may become bored.

The primary nature of Adrenal body types is Physical / Mental. Emotions are easily ignored or suppressed until there is an outbreak – often caused by an unrelated incident. Once the outburst is over, the air is cleared – no grudges, residuals or regrets.

Exercise

Adrenals easily build muscle mass and definition with exercise. However the most important benefit to exercise for an Adrenal is the release of the excess cortisol that builds up during the day. Best to exercise after 5:00 PM, for at least 40 minutes daily. Exercises with real movement (swimming, biking, running) are more calming than stationary exercises.

Nutrition, Diet & Weight

Salt and beef stimulate the adrenal glands, so Adrenals are best to limit them. Also limit crab, scallops and shrimp. Fish and poultry are better protein sources for Adrenals. To maintain weight, follow a low-fat, low-protein diet. Make breakfast the smallest meal of the day, with a moderate lunch, and dinner as the largest meal of the day.

Favor raw vegetables over cooked. Adrenals can be successful vegetarians. When their bodies are stressed, dense protein such as chicken or fish will help to rebuild.

Most popular diets are based on the Adrenal body type, so they will usually work well. To lose weight, reduce food quantities (especially carbohydrates). Emphasize raw fruits and vegetables, soups, salads and protein. Include grains for lunch, or for breakfast and dinner, but not for lunch and dinner. Avoid snacks, although raw vegetables, fruit or yogurt are good choices. Exercise at least 40 minutes daily.

Adrenals are especially prone to weight gain as a result of unreleased stress or unresolved emotional issues, so regular exercise and emotional clearing will assist with weight management.

Core Emotional Issues

The core emotional issues Adrenals commonly face include Failure, Abandonment, Facing the World, and Fear of Conflict.

Failure is stored in the thymus, which is accessed using Peppermint Essential Oil. The opposite of Failure is Unfoldment, and the way out is “I accept growth”. Fear of Facing the World is stored in the Adrenal glands, which are accessed using Myrrh Essential Oil. The opposite of Facing the World is Embracing the world, and the way out is “I am safe”. Fear of Abandonment is stored in the small intestines, which are accessed with Lavender essential oil. The opposite of Abandonment is At-One-Ment, and the way out is “I embrace all of life’s experiences”.

Fear of Conflict is stored in the Adrenal Cortex; it can be accessed and released using Valor Essential Oil as described below.

Valor Essential Oil for Releasing Conflict

One of the core emotional issues for the Adrenal body type is Fear of Conflict. Conflict may be inner, or may be a conflict with others. Inner conflict is often manifested as an internal struggle between beliefs, which can lead to indecision about how to act or react to a situation. We often have outdated beliefs that conflict with more evolved thinking and new experiences. A state of peace is reached when we synchronize our beliefs with current experience and thinking, and the affirmation statement to release Conflict is “I am at peace”.

This emotional pattern can be released using the Valor Essential Oil blend. The other side (or way out) of Conflict is Peace, and the affirmation is "I am at peace." The fear of Conflict is stored in the Adrenal Cortex.

Valor is a blend of rosewood, blue tansy, frankincense and spruce and in ancient times was used to prepare soldiers for battle. Valor Essential Oil balances energies to instill courage, confidence, and self-esteem. It helps the body self-correct its balance and alignment. Valor may be applied to the bottoms of the feet, wrists, chest, base of neck or along the spine in raindrop technique. It may be directly inhaled, or 2-4 drops added to bath water.

Other emotions that the essential oil Valor is used to clear are: Aggression, Defensiveness, Inability to Cope, Losing a Battle, Feeling or Being Persecuted, Resignation and Withdrawn.
